Congratulations to Labour led Norwich City Council on winning Riba Sterling Prize for eco council housing project.
The estate in Goldsmith St., Norwich is made up of 100 ultra low-energy homes. It meets the rigorous ‘Passivhaus’ environmental standards, which means it provides a high level of occupant comfort while using little energy for heating and cooling.
Riba said ‘Faced with a global climate emergency, the worst housing crisis for generations and crippling local authority cuts, Goldsmith St. is a beacon of hope and highly unusual for a mass housing development.
It is commended not just as a transformative social housing scheme and eco-development but a pioneering exemplar for other local authorities to follow.’
